A Brief History of Pine Island RV Resort

In 1982, Quaker Life Insurance, owned by Jim Inhofe, had some 85
acres of ridges and hollows, decorated with Pines, Blackjacks, Oaks,
Dogwoods and Redbuds.

Fronted on the north by beautiful Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, the
property was then known as Kirkwood Forest and Bay View Estates,
consisting of lake access and lake front lots.


In 1983, Jim Inhofe and Mr. Max Bott got together, and Pine Island RV
Resort, Inc. was born.

By August of 1983, Pine Island RV Resort had six RV sites without
water, electricity, or sewer.  The office was located in a small building
near what is now the basketball/tennis court.  Huge changes came in
1984, with the installation of the water plant, sewer lines, electricity,
boat ramp, boat docks, the main road through the middle of the
property, and the south clubhouse, which is now called the Teen
Center.  Sixty new sites with full hook-ups were added at this time.  On
March 14th, 1984, Pine Island was officially incorporated.

In 1985, more construction was undertaken with the building of the
Eagle's Nest.  Rental units were moved in, paving was completed, and
the office building was set in place.  More docks and a fenced storage
were added.

Jim Inhofe realized there was a need for additional land for site
construction and purchased 40 acres adjoining Pine Island to the north.  
Located in the new Area 3 was the heated fishing dock.  We now have
a total of 144 acres of property.

Further site construction was done in 1986 before the park went into
receivership.

However, in 1987, Pine Island was turned over to the members and
soon prospered.  A new sales company was put in place at this time.

Pine Island was a Three Star Park in 1987, but the combined effort of
the staff and members brought a Four Star rating in 1988.  In 1989, our
first Five Star rating was obtained.  As of 2012, we are rated by
Woodall's as a Three W in Facilities and a Four W in Recreation
